How To Make Singapore Maths Work For Your Child (7th Grade / Secondary
1 To 10th Grade / Secondary 4)
Singapore Maths is a rigorous maths
curriculum that has put Singapore students at the top of the world in
maths. Many countries are now adopting Singapore Maths for use in their
schools and homes, but they may not realise its full potential. We will
show you how to make Singapore Maths work for your child if he is in 7th
Grade / Secondary 1 to 10th Grade / Secondary 4.
In Singapore, secondary schools are mostly using only one out of a few
packages of Singapore Maths textbooks and workbooks to teach Elementary
Maths. The choice of Singapore Maths packages for Elementary Maths depends
on whether the students belong to a Express Course or a Normal Course.
Students in the Express Course are good in maths and they need only
four years to complete their secondary education. The more able students
even take an additional maths subject called Additional Maths in 9th Grade
And 10th Grade / Secondary 3 And Secondary 4, so as to prepare them for
college maths in 11th Grade And 12th Grade / GCE A Level. Additional Maths
is also a requisite for students who study Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Students in the Normal Course are weaker in maths and they need five years
to complete their secondary education.
For 7th Grade and 8th Grade / Secondary 1 and Secondary 2, it is mostly
sufficient to use just one Singapore Maths package of textbooks and
workbooks as these books provide lots of maths exercises. No other
Singapore Maths workbook is necessary.
For 9th Grade And 10th Grade / Secondary 3 And Secondary 4, it is very
common for students to supplement their Singapore Maths package of
textbooks and workbooks with the respective GCE Ordinary Level maths past
years' exam papers' questions and solutions manuals. These GCE Ordinary
Level maths past years' exam papers' questions and solutions manuals
provide the step-by-step worked solutions and answers to past years' exam
papers' questions which had appeared in the national examinations, and
they are used widely to teach Singapore students how to solve various
types of maths question.
We therefore would like to recommend the following three steps to a
good Singapore Maths diet for your child, which have worked for many
Singapore students.

2. Use a suitable Singapore Maths textbook for Additional Maths
|
As mentioned above, the more able students also study Additional Maths
in 9th Grade And 10th Grade / Secondary 3 And Secondary 4 on top of
Elementary Maths. This is to prepare them for college maths in 11th Grade
And 12th Grade / GCE A Level. Additional Maths is also a requisite for
students who study Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
